D’Elia Guarnieri is a private tutor and education consultant with a BFA from New York University, where she majored in Dramatic Writing with a concentration in Screenwriting and a minor in Psychology. She attended NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts from 2011-2014 and graduated with highest academic honors. Prior to matriculating at NYU, she attended Yale’s Summer Session as a high school student in addition to taking classes at the College of William and Mary her senior year. Her college credits earned from these universities in high school along with a plethora of AP classes allowed her to graduate from NYU in three years. Upon graduating from NYU in 2014, D’Elia moved to Los Angeles after optioning a screenplay and continued to tutor in order to foster her love of academics. She enjoys using her knowledge to help students improve grades, increase standardized test scores, and help students with college applications. In the past year alone, she has helped students get accepted to their first choice colleges (including a Dartmouth early decision acceptance), improved ACT scores by up to 15 points (test is out of 36), and raised course averages by up to 20 points, or two letter grades. She has experience working with students with ADHD, Asperger’s Syndrome, dyslexia, test anxiety, depression, and other behavioral disorders.
D’Elia believes that every student has the ability to be academically high achieving if taught how to approach school in ways that work best for the student. Inspired by the teachings of her Forensic Psychiatrist mother, D’Elia uses Cognitive Psychology techniques to help students improve memory and also helps them build confidence by applying an optimistic attitude toward every subject, no matter how difficult it may seem to the student. She utilizes a creative approach in all subjects from English and history to math and science. Having scored a perfect 36 on the ACT, she currently applies her approach to ACT material that she is designing for test prep company Just Practice, Inc. in order to help the company come up with ways for students to streamline their test prep through diagnostics and online webinar lessons. She has essentially written an ACT test prep textbook.
