Dr. Angela Aiello earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She also earned certificates from the Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis and the Center for Mindfulness and Buddhist psychology. With over 15 years of experience in mental health and substance use disorders, her most recent work was as Primary Therapist at Promises Professionals Treatment working with physicians, dentists, attorneys, pilots, and business executives with substance use disorders and mental health challenges.
Her work also involved functioning as liaison between them and their professional health and monitoring programs, employee assistance programs, and in some cases their legal representatives. Dr. Aiello specializes in Substance Abuse, Attachment Disorders, Trauma, Personality Disorders, and Mindfulness and is considered a leader in 12 step spirituality incorporating various spiritual, psychological and philosophical modalities into her 12 step lectures and workshops.
In addition to psychodynamic and relational therapies, Dr. Aiello is also trained in EMDR, Level II, Motivational Interviewing. CBT, DBT, various Relapse Prevention models, and the somatic model TRM: Trauma Resilience Model. Lastly, she is also a certified facilitator in The Daring Way™ a highly experiential methodology based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown, Ph.D. LMSW. The model focuses vulnerability, shame resilience, and the necessity of taking risks for life altering change. Dr. Aiello has held positions from Primary Therapist to Clinical Director in a number of in-patient facilities around Southern California. She also maintains a private practice in Santa Monica, California.
