Tom Wood, Ph.D. Sociology, and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. Dr. Wood has worked in the field of addictions and mental health for over 21 years, providing addiction treatment services, psychotherapeutic services and education to groups, individuals, couples, and families. Dr. Wood holds a Ph.D. in Sociology with an emphasis in Addiction Studies and Family Systems. He is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and experienced in assessment and treatment of individuals and families, as well as distressed professionals, on issues ranging from chemical dependency, behavioral addictions, emotional and mental health, PTSD and other trauma, family and relationship conflict, to personal lifecycle adjustment, positive personal growth, and relationship and career transitions. Dr. Wood is an experienced EMDRTM practitioner, and a designated Master Trainer for the Say It StraightTM program, a research-based education and training program that results in empowering communication skills and behaviors and is recognized by SAMHSA as an evidenced-based program. Dr. Wood presents education and training on topics such as the neurophysiological basis of addiction, depression, bipolar & other mood disorders, Motivational Interviewing, and other counseling and treatment methods for colleges, universities, hospitals and agencies, as well as community-based support groups and agencies. Conference appearances include Texas Behavioral Health Institute in Austin, TX, the International Conference on Alcohol and Addiction, Venice, Italy, and the International Conference on Interdisciplinary Social Science at Cambridge University, Cambridge, England. While in Texas Dr. Wood was a regular contributor to local and syndicated radio and television news programs on issues of addiction, and past host of a weekly Internet-based radio show featuring recovery and mental health topics. Publications include research articles on Say It StraightTM communication training in the Journal of Mental Health Nursing and the International Journal of Interdisciplinary Social Sciences.
