Partial Hospitalization Program(PHP)

What is a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)?

Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) are an intense form of outpatient care here at Resolutions Therapeutic Services. Our PHP level involves up to 30 hours of treatment per week, through a combination of one-on-one sessions and group treatments.
Inpatient and outpatient care are largely differentiated by whether a person stays at a treatment facility overnight (inpatient care) or goes home (or to a supportive living environment) after treatment each day (outpatient care).

Despite the name, partial hospitalization doesn’t require a stay at a hospital, and is not a form of inpatient treatment; instead, it refers to partial hospitalization in the sense that a client is partially committed to a mental health treatment facility through a strict treatment schedule.

Partial Hospitalization Programs at Resolutions

Each client’s PHP schedule at Resolutions is individualized. Our staff is trained to administer a wide range of different therapeutic modalities, ranging from mindfulness training and experiential therapy methods to traditional talk therapy, trauma-related treatment methods such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), nutrition counseling, life coaching, and alternative treatments such as neurofeedback, acupuncture and yoga.
Partial Hospitalization Programs feature the most treatment hours per week, and clients at a PHP level engage with our staff and treatment facilitators the most out of other outpatient offerings.

At Resolutions, we view PHP as an entry point to a larger continuum of care for clients with mental health symptoms that require ongoing professional supervision and long-term support, including certain mood and anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress, personality disorders, substance use disorders, and co-occurring conditions.

Bespoke PHP Scheduling

An individualized treatment program that can be adjusted on a weekly basis gives our PHP plans an element of flexibility that isn’t common in mental healthcare.

Our staff consists of world-renowned experts in the fields of mental health and addiction, and we carefully design each client’s plan to account for changes in behavior, personal progress, and more.

Supportive Living at Resolutions

Supportive living is an optional residential element featured in each of our mental health programs at Resolutions. We offer access to a luxury residential living facility in Santa Monica for clients who wish to remain immersed in a supportive environment throughout their treatment. Resolutions Living includes amenities such as chef-prepared meals and 24/7 support from staff.

When Should You Transition Into a PHP?

Partial hospitalization programming is not ideal for every client. PHP is a form of outpatient treatment usually recommended in cases where inpatient treatment might not be necessary or could be actively detrimental.

For some people, being away from family for weeks at a time might not be conducive to their treatment. Others don’t need full inpatient treatment to benefit from an intensive treatment plan, as PHP plans often provide. PHP can often be a transitional tool to help people coming from an inpatient or residential program slowly readjust to living at home while still receiving full-time care.

At 30 hours a week, clients are expected to spend six hours a day, five days a week at our treatment center. Unlike other forms of outpatient treatment, partial hospitalization often precludes a reintroduction to work or other responsibilities but can be helpful in paving the way for reentering the workforce and regular day-to-day living at home.
